I pointed a local AI at everything I've ever made.

Years of work, scattered across drives and dead folders. I gave the lot to an AI on my own laptop and got back a private index I can actually search. No cloud, no subscription. Here is how, and what it is for.

Every maker has this problem. Hundreds of files across old projects. Half on a drive, half in three different clouds, half on a laptop that died two years ago. A body of work you cannot see, let alone use.

So I pointed AI at it. Not a service that wants my files and a monthly fee. A couple of small models running locally, for nothing. One reads the text out of every document. One looks at every image and video frame and writes down what it sees. One boils each file down to its essence.

Here is what that does to a single file. An old branding job from the archive, read and described by a model that never leaves the machine.

Do that across the whole archive and it stops being a graveyard. It becomes a map. A project from years ago sits next to one from last month, joined by what they share.

This is the part the hype skips. You do not need a data project or a cloud contract to get something out of AI. For a lot of small jobs the tools already sit on your laptop. The skill is knowing what to point them at.
